KU School of Medicine is showing elementary and middle school children in Kansas City, Kan., the joys and benefits of organic gardens.

Sixth grade science and social studies classes, at Argentine Middle School in KCK, participated in the KCK Organic Teaching Gardens Sweet Potato Workshops on Friday, November 4, 2011.

On Thursday, October 27, from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, the KCK Organic Teaching Gardens held our second volunteer night of the year.  High School Seniors and Juniors, from Sumner and Washington High Schools helped wash, peel, and slice organically grown sweet potatoes.  These potatoes will be used in our Sweet Potato Workshops that begin on Tuesday, November 1, at Argentine Middle School.   Volunteer Nights will continue through the year, in Mr. Zeigler’s science classroom at Rosedale Middle School.

On Friday, October 28, 2011, the KCK Organic Teaching Gardens planted fall bulbs of tulips and daffodils, with 5 Sixth Grade classes at Argentine Middle School.  In total over 425 bulbs were planted near the front entryway to the school.

On Tuesday, October 25, 2011, The KCK Organic Teaching Gardens planted fall bulbs of tulips and daffodils at the front entry-way of their school.
